Car or no car
A 4x4 gives freedom and is fine for main routes, but roads are slow, winding, and sometimes unpaved, and GPS can mislead. Tourist shuttles and shared vans connect all the popular spots, and many travelers skip driving entirely.

December-April is the dry season and peak - book ahead. The green season (May-November) is cheaper and lush, with clear mornings and reliable afternoon rain; September-October is wettest on the Pacific but drier on the Caribbean.
