Orlando, Florida
Family Trip to Orlando
The trip that rewards planning more than almost any other — a loose plan here means wasted park days.
Best time to go
Late January–February or September–early November for lower crowds and more tolerable heat.
Ideal trip length
6–7 days for two parks done properly with a rest day built in.
Budget note
Off-property hotels and grocery runs for breakfast/snacks meaningfully cut cost versus staying fully on-property.
Pick 2 parks, not 4
Trying to hit every park in one trip is the most common regret parents report — going deep on two parks with a rest day beats a rushed tour of all four.
Build in a pool day
A full off-park day, especially mid-trip, resets kids (and adults) and avoids the burnout that shows up around day 3–4 of back-to-back parks.
Age-match the parks
Younger kids get far more out of Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom than the more thrill-ride-heavy Epcot or Hollywood Studios — match the itinerary to actual ages, not just interest.
Quick tips
- Mobile order food ahead to avoid the worst of the lunch-rush lines.
- Afternoon storms are near-daily in summer — plan indoor attractions for early afternoon.
- Rope-drop (arriving at opening) has an outsized effect on how much you get done before crowds build.
